Urban Studio were invited by the client to submit space planning and design proposals for the refurbishment of one of the upper floors in the iconic building which is the Shard located in the City of London.
A detailed analysis of the client’s current requirements and projected expansion to 2023 was carried out. This was supported by layouts and recommendations on the amount of space required for immediate occupation, areas for subletting and future expansion.
Due to the exacting spatial requirements and the need for maximum provision of offices, a great deal of attention was paid in balancing the needs for privacy and the need to maintain continuity of space and light penetration.
Attention was also paid to flexibility particularly in the customer facing areas with sliding folding screens for the meeting areas and innovative devices for storing the walls.
It was intended that the client’s brand would be brought to life in in the finished interior by the use of modern and traditional materials – upholding the companies past reputation and heritage and also its vision for the future.
