Hanson Street

Hanson Street is a stunning example of what can be achieved with 90sqm of space which provides the sort of accommodation normally provided in much larger homes. Before the addition of the two-storey extension to the rear of the flat the floor area was 55sqm.

Clever manipulation of the space and light and a number of ingenious space saving techniques enabled Urban Studio to provide the client with the equivalent of an entrance hall, kitchen and open plan living area, dining room, three bedrooms two with ensuite facilities and a further shower room and a terraced outside garden.

The design is unashamedly minimalist. Ceilings and walls are painted white throughout. There are no skirtings, frames, architraves or embellishments of any sort. Dinesen Douglas wood flooring brings the natural beauty of timber to life and a warmth and softness to the scheme. Obstacles to overcome were conservation, planning, council approval and the challenge to meet Building Regulations with means of escape from the two-storey rear extension.
