Goodmans Jones LLP

Urban Studio were appointed as executive architects and designers for the design and refurbishment of this Grade Two Star listed building in Fitzroy Square in central London.

Originally constructed in 1832 to provide London residences for aristocratic families, the client’s building along with other buildings in the square was later converted into offices.

Parts of the building had reached a serious state of disrepair. There was also a large amount of asbestos contained within the fabric of the building which although captive was a cause for concern. It also restricted on going alterations and “churn”.

The client – Goodman Jones LLP – seized the opportunity to improve the working environment of the their offices by undertaking a wholesale modernisation of the building.

Extensive remedial works were carried out including the removal of a significant amount of asbestos. Together with the assistance of Richard Morton Architects – Planning and listed building consultants – the successful balancing of the clients requirements with the strict conditions imposed by the planning authorities enabled Urban Studio to provide the client with sensitively designed and efficient working areas.

In particular the successfully planned and sympathetic blending of the traditional style of the building with a degree of modernism in the enlarged reception area and boardroom suites has proven to be a great success with both Goodman Jones LLP and their visiting clients.
