This five-story block of 40 apartments built in 2000 sits between Chiswick High road and Gunnersbury Park.
Due to the layout of the apartment the spaces appeared more confined and smaller than they actually were. This was exacerbated by low ceiling heights and narrow corridors.
The scope for optimising space and providing connectivity between the various areas was limited. Notwithstanding the entire appearance of the apartment was radically transformed by the introduction of a bank of fully glazed doors into the living area, lining out one side of the corridor leading through to the bedrooms with full height – width mirrors – doubling its width – and a consistency of materials and finishes. This enabled the spaces to be enlarged and opened up with visually pleasing and exciting vistas from one end of the apartment to the other.
The design of the apartment is contemporary in style. It is light and bright and devoid of excessive ornamentation. A light oak flooring, which brings the natural beauty of timber to life and a warmth and softness to the scheme has been used throughout.
A careful choice of materials and furniture fixtures and fittings blend to provide a predominantly neutral scheme tempered by small contrasting areas of texture and colour.
